Fishing is a separate progression system in Blox Fruits. You level Fishing by catching fish, then earn Angler Trust through quests to unlock recipes for better rods. Each rod recipe also requires its own materials and currency, so unlocking it does not give you the finished rod automatically.
Requirement check: The Angler requires Fishing level 20. The Treasure Rod also has a Fishing level 65 requirement. The Trust counts below are specific to the Angler in each Sea and can change after game updates.

Trust unlocks the crafting recipe. Check the Angler’s rod menu for the current material and currency costs before you farm; those ingredients are separate from the Trust requirement.
Where to find the Angler
- First Sea: at the lower docks in Skylands.
- Second Sea: at the Green Zone dock, also called Dock 3.
- Third Sea: on Hydra Island, beside the river near the Hydra Leader’s spawn.
Each Sea has its own Angler Trust progress. Quests completed in one Sea do not count toward the rod requirements at another Sea’s Angler.
How Angler quests and Trust work
Reach Fishing level 20 before looking for the Angler. Select the Quest option, complete the assigned objective, then return to the NPC to finish it. A completed quest adds one Trust point.
The Angler can assign a quest to catch a fish of a requested rarity, a timed quest to catch three fish within 2 minutes and 5 seconds, a quest to perform three perfect casts and three perfect reactions, or a quest to use a fishing rod skill three times. A 15-minute cooldown applies after accepting a quest, including when it is cancelled or left incomplete.
A practical rod upgrade route
- Get the starter Fishing Rod from a Fisherman and catch fish until your Fishing level reaches 20.
- Find the Angler in your current Sea and complete quests there until you meet that rod’s Trust requirement.
- Open the rod menu and check the recipe. Collect its listed materials and currency, then craft the rod.
- When you enter a new Sea, build Trust with that Sea’s Angler. For the Treasure Rod, also reach Fishing level 65.
Use bait that suits the fish or fishing objective you are pursuing, and practice the casting and reeling prompts. Rod recipes and quest objectives are shown in-game; check those menus again after major updates.

Do I need Fishing level 20 to get a rod?
You need Fishing level 20 to interact with the Angler. The Treasure Rod has an additional Fishing level 65 requirement. The starter rod is obtained from a Fisherman.
Does Angler Trust carry over between Seas?
No. Build Trust with the Angler in the Sea where you want to unlock that rod.
Why is a rod recipe still locked?
Check that you are speaking to the Angler in the correct Sea, meet the Trust and Fishing level requirements, and have completed any required quest dialogue. Once the recipe is available, you still need its listed materials and currency.
